The primary focus of the readings and lectures of EDLD 5364
Teaching with Technology week 1 was on three different teaching methods and how
technology can be used when utilizing these methods. The teaching methods
discussed during the week are constructivism, project-based learning, and
constructivism. These methods of teaching can be used to “help [students]
analyze, synthesize, and communicate information” (Solomon & Schrum 2007). Constructivism and connectivism were completed
new teaching terms to me in the beginning of this course. However, after
researching these terms further, the concepts were somewhat familiar.
Constructivism builds on prior knowledge while connectivism makes and maintains
connections throughout the learning process. Project-based learning
incorporates student-centered activities to engage students. Technology can be
used with each one of these methods to help assist the teacher in reaching the
students. The Web is a great place to begin looking for the technology to use
with these methods. There are many free tools, Web 2.0 tools that can assist
the teacher and students with communication and collaboration in and outside
the classroom.
